On This Date in Seabee History

21 January 1968: A small detail of Seabees from Construction Battalion Maintenance Unit 301 distinguished themselves during the tense siege of Khe Sanh, Vietnam. North Vietnamese commenced concentrated rocket, mortar, and artillery attacks in preparation for their offensive to take the mountain outpost. The men of the detail repaired numerous rocket, artillery, and mortar holes in the airstrip. The runway crews exposed themselves to enemy fire during repairs.

Reminds me of a story my brother tells of repairing a runway, I think on the island of Gaum, and a enemy plane flew in and started shooting at him.
He turned the D8 dozer sideways and he dove underneath it.
