Listen to the Unique P51 whistle sound

    The jury is out on what makes the P51 Mustang have this unique whining sound. Some say it is the air across the gun ports, others the 2 stage superchargers.

    Take a listen to this thing... You can just imagine these things mixing it up with BF109s or straffing a tank column.

    Here's my take on the P-51 howl (or whistle): I have a scale R/C P-51 with a wingspan of 55 inches. It howls (whistles) as speed builds up in a dive. It's loud, too. I've flown R/C aircraft for over 40 years and have never heard anything like this before, though I have certainly flown faster planes. I'd say the thrust to weight ratio is close to scale, and wonder if the P-51 whistle may be inherent to the rather unique contours of the P-51 airframe.

    I think it's the pilot screaming with joy at being able to fly that beautiful thing.:)
