    Hi All:

My dad recently passed and left me 2 muskets (this is the 2nd one). Does anyone know how common these are (assuming the 859 meant 1859); and does this look original?

It is an Austrian Lorenz. They were originally .54 caliber but a lot of them were rebored to .58 caliber. It is complete except for the sling swivels. Yours was made in 1859 as per the lock markings and undoubtedly saw war service. Both sides imported them during the Civil War. Value runs from about 800-1000.
