Hello! My father passed away a few years ago and left me two of his rifles: '59 Winchester Model 70 .300 H&H Magnum and a '56-'58 Marlin "Varmint King" with a Sako L46 action in .222 Rem. I had the stock refinished (on both weapons), so it looks better than it did, but I'm sure that didn't help the value any. I need to put a value on them to properly insure them with USAA, so I did a bit of research and came up with $1000 for the Marlin/Sako, but I'm not sure if that's anywhere near accurate.
I'm not selling either rifle, so really only need the info for insurance purposes. Also, any stories or history y'all have on this (or similar) rifle would be appreciated! I know 354 of the Model 422 were produced between 1956-58, but am not sure what year mine is. Serial number is 34179.
Here are a few photos:

Very nice rifle...outstanding cartridge!! I'm sorry I can't help you with the value or DOM. Any time you go altering an original rifle you pretty much screwed the pooch.

Yah, that's what I've heard. Fortunately, I don't plan on ever selling it! :)
