Right. When a barrel is made they are bored to their minimum dimension, for a .30 cal its generally .300" then they are rifled. The most common method is pull button rifling. Its the method used my Shilen rifle company, and anyone that shoots knows that shilen is one of the Premier barrel makers. I have toured their plant several times and have a personal friend that has worked there almost as long as Ive been alive.
