    Howdy all.....

I'm new here and I'm hoping someone can help me with a problem I'm having. I just bought a brand new Ruger Mini-30 and I'm having a hell of a time finding any high capacity magazines that chamber properly. It constantly jams except with the clip it came with. I've tried a few cheap 20 rnd mags that I picked up at a gun show, 18 rnd plastic eagle mags etc.... I did fine one 10rnd mag that works. What's wrong? The 5 round clip that came with the rifle works perfectly. I'm begining to wish I bought an AK instead. I must admit I'm pretty suprised. Ruger up until now has always been excellent.

Anyway, I hope someone has some advice. I'm gonna be slightly ticked if I have to take my brand new gun to a gunsmith, however I don't think that is the case because the clip that came with it work fine.

Thanks in advance for any help.

"Ruger" or "PMI" magazines are the only ones that work. For these you will pay dearly. Up to $100.00 each for 20 or 30 rounders......sometimes more. Welcome! LTS

Hello Veyland and welcome to The Firearms Forum

LTS, has told you right... if you want a well fuctioning mag, you'll need to get what will work. Same thing goes with any auto-loader.

Also owning a mini-14 I too have run into this more than once.
What kind of mags did you buy ? It's true Factory or PMI mags
work best.Stay away from Eagle. There are a few Thermolds
out there but you're looking at 100.00 a mag.I have two from
Victor. They're cheap and don't always work, but most times
    do.I also have USA.They're not much better.However here's
a liitle tip.It might work out for you.I have a friend who took
his USA 30rnd apart and installed m16-ar15 30 rnd mag springs
in the USA mag.He says they are a bit smaller and don't hang
up like the springs that come with the USA.He uses Wollf
springs to do this. Also look at the feed lips of the factory 5rnd
mag and compare it to what you have.Maybe all you have to
do is a bit of bending.I know its a pain, but this might work for
    you.bg

If you look in the for-sale section here, there's a guy selling a 30 round PMI mag for $35, you might want to consider that.
