I have been putting a Mosin Nagant rifle together from assorted parts.
When I screw the receiver to the barrel there is a small gap ---is this OK ?

Small gap at the shoulder? not OK. Most of the barrel torque and tension sits on that shoulder. The barrel shank will have to be shortened and the barrel re-clocked and headspaced.

That says it all !
I planned to assemble WW 2 rifles from each major player .
It is now obvious that I can still do that--but firing them is another story .
After reading your reply I have found a gunsmith .
I'm hopeful that he will be willing to do the final steps for me .I am sure that headspace is doable but machining the barrel will take some expertise .
