My must haves are the wife and the kids...

However, to properly protect and provide for them Id need, at the very least. A good accurate rifle in a powerful cartridge like .30-06 or .308 win, A good relaible 12 ga shotgun preferrably a shortened version of the rem 870 with screw in chokes. a good .22 target pistol and enough supplies to keep them running.

Here are my reasons.. The high power rifle is for keeping meat in the fridge, the 12 ga has a double purpose in home defense and killing birds and small game. The .22 target pistol has a dual purpose also in killing small game and teaching the children how to shoot, and perhaps even a last resort 3rd purpose as a HD gun. And obviously the required supplies is to ensure I dont posess a bunch of finely crafted well oiled clubs..;)

Thats my SHTF short list of necessities, Thank God we currently retain the right to own as many 'necessities' as we see fit..

In your ammo list you have three spots where you have an amount, but you have more than one type of shell listed. So, is that 1K 44M and 1K 44S, or is the thousand rounds of 44 split between the magnum and the special? 5000 22s, split up among 4 types, or 20,000 22s? Total of 500 12 gauge, or 1000?

Which ever firearm(s) I left the house with, I’d add: One buff-colored german shepherd, Maxie Good-dawg. Not because he’s a “bad-ass” (‘cause he isn’t). I’d bring him along because he hears MUCH better than I do, and ‘alerts’ long before I notice anything. (There's another reason, as well, but I won't mention that one.)

Here here, don't leave us hanging  :D

As to the question at hand; Riding around with me I have a Henry .22 (1,000 rds), M-1 Carbine, (200 rds), 1911 (70+ rds) .40 (50 rds) 9 MM (50 rds) & 22 semi auto pistol. THAT is my emergency kit. If I have to take out fast at least I have something on me. Plus a large first aid kit & survival kit

Okay, good point. If things got really 'bad' - he'd make a couple of meals.

Alpo, to answer your questions (in order of asking)

    44 mag: 1250
    44 spl: 350 (50 shotshells)
    22s: 800
    22lr: 6k (20 shotshells)
    22WMR: 1.5K (250 shotshells)
    12 ga.: 500 (2.75=180 & 3"=320)

Did I ever tell anyone I used to sell ammunition?

A lot of the shotshells & 22WMR was purchased @ a Western Auto that was going out of business. They were selling all ammunition @ 30% off!:D

As far as the other comments... there all great!! :D

Spoken like a true Father!! If I was still married, I would have said the same thing! Hopefully, should we ever need our firearms (SHTF), our family (& friends) will be close by!

I started this thread because I always see folks ask: "If you could only grab 2 guns", or "which handgun & long gun would you buy for a SHTF situation".

I thought I would get a few "dream" lists.... ie: no rush to load your vehicle lists, etc., hence my "no 18 wheeler" comment.

Sure you can!!:D I've never eaten horse flesh... but I'm game... if you're willing to share!! :p:D After dinner we can all share islenos's Wild Turkey 101!! :D:D:D

    My 12ga

    My 7mm mag.

My 4x4 f-150 with the gang box loaded with ammo and a sharp knife.

I can survive. As long as they still make gas lol.

Up here all I got to do is shoot one moose and I have enough meat to get me through the winter and then some.
