This is my first time on any gun forum. I have a High Standard HD Military pistol that I need some help with. Inside of the slide there is what appears to me to be a crack forming (I will attach a photo). However, from a couple of pictures I found online there is certainly supposed to be some kind of indentation in the same spot. I am not sure if this is a crack or an intentional cut on the slide. There is some kind of metal part under the cut too, I assume it is likely the ejector. Thanks for any help.
If any one has any knowledge about these old guns I would appreciate the help.
Welcome to the forum. Just looking at you slide I don't see anything wrong. I think the part you are calling the ejector is the extractor. There are people on this forum that can give you a "real" answer to your question, and you should get a reply before long.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but it appears that the second picture may show both an ejector and an extractor, and neither seems to be damaged. Sadly, these are really bad pictures, and provide no information of any definitive value. What I don't see is any sign of metal fatigue or any incipient crack. That's a good thing. There's definitely something odd just above the ejector, but I can't tell what it is from these pictures. It might be a purposeful mark, or it might be something abnormal. I don't know...
I've never worked on a High Standard, so my opinion is worth only as much as it costs. I don't see any crack forming, so I'd shoot it until it fails; they're reputed to be very reliable guns.
The photos are just fine.. What you see is normal. The hole for the retaining hook of the extractor commonly breaks out in the groove on the bottom of the slide. Also adjacent id the bottom of the pin that retains the plunger and spring for the extractor.
I shall defer to Mr. Stimson's opinion, given he is one of the world's foremost authorities on High Standards.
