I don't know what you mean by "use". The 12 gauge stock and some parts might be the same as the rifle, but I don't know if they interchange. If you mean using the shotgun to see how the parts fit in that kind of gun, I think that would probably be a good idea; the actions should be very similar.

Go over to Graybeards.com and look in the H&R section. There is a thread with FAQ's at the top of the page, and in there you will find info on performing a trigger job, which includes disassembly and re-assembly of the internals of the frame.

I would not use the 12 gauge frame with a rifle barrel. The barrel may not fit properly (the barrels and frames are matched at the factory), and the 12 gauge frame is cast iron, whereas the rifle frames are cast steel.

Good luck.

i tried graybeards.com but come up with a wounded warrior foundation am i missing something and thanks for your help
Actually, the place you're looking for is http://www.graybeardoutdoors.com/ .
Forum links are at the bottom of the home page.
They've got H&R/NEF specific sub-forums about 1/4 of the way down the forum page.

As TCoggins posted, you might run into headspacing problems swapping barrels between frames. I don't know for sure about the iron vs steel frames though...pretty sure that was the case back when they were H&Rs but I don't know about the NEF-era units.
