A couple months back i wrote anf asked for suggestions on a new handgun. Ot was between a FNX or a CZ97. Well cz is sold out everywhere. I cant find one new. I found a used one for $520 but the warranty doesn't transfer. So im set on a FNX. I would like the 45 its $699. The 40 cal is $550. Opinions wanted about 40 and 45. I shot 45s before but never shot a 40. Its time to buy.
Either will do just fine. In the end I think you would like either. Personally, I would never ask someone else what caliber do I want. It is really a personal choice and everyone is different. All you will get is others opinion.
So my opinion is "Either"
I have the FNX 9 and FNX 45 and like them both. I don't have a .40 and have never fired one. I don't really know why I would want to add a .40 when I have 9mm and .45.
Well thats the way i kinda feel. Why half step when you can get the full thing. I wasnt asking which i should get. I just wanted opinions on 40 cal really. I never shot one. Im looking for the fnx for rent so i can shoot both or possibly just the 40. Idk probably just get the 45 and be done with it.
I will personally never buy another .40 caliber pistol. The one that I have is polymer, I have not had any kind of problem with it (Sig Sauer P-250). My reason for not buying another .40 is maybe kind of cruel BUT it is my reason. My grandson accidentally shot himself in the head with that P-250 at a distance of about 3-4 inches and survived (I am happy that he did). I'm concerned that if I have to shoot a bad guy with one, will it stop him!
.40, or .45, I would pick the .45 every time. Although I've never shot a .40 most folks that I've talked to that have, say the .40, being a lighter gun, has more felt recoil. I'm pleased with the .45, and it's 230 grain bullets.
Carried both .40's and .45's on duty as an LEO (Glocks 21 and 22). Trusted both of them with my life everyday. I'm a firm believer in shot placement, shot placement, shot placement and that comes with serious, good training and basic skills and fundamentals. No substitute for it.
There's a lot of dead guys out there with holes in them from both calibers.
Also there are some very good defense loads for both calibers out there. You wouldn't make a bad choice with either one.
I have both a 45acp pistol and a 40S&W. My 45 is my EDC gun. I have asked many of the Police and Sheriff Deputies I have had contact with here, and most are carrying 40S&W now. I have learned that the 40 has a little more of a snappy recoil that the 45. I have also learned that the 40S&W is cheaper to reload and priced lower for Factory ammo than the 45. Yet I reload for both and will buy factory ammo for both when the price is right.
This weekend i went to gandermountain to look at the FN's. Both FNX40 and the 45. Although the 40 is smaller mostly in the handle i will buy the FNX 45. Its just a nice gun. It fit so comfortable in both my hands. Going to order it online its about $100 cheaper than gandermountain. Can't wait.
