While searching through eBay last week looking for savage rifle barrels, I found a shilen 358 Norma mag barrel for a good price. I got pretty excited since it was a cartridge I had planned for my next project. The bad part was it was an auction listing and the ending time was when I was sleeping for work. I placed my bid and hoped no one else would bid on it..........but someone else outbid me. After getting over my disappointment, I started searching more and that’s when I found a listing that got my interest. It was a barrel kit from EABCO. The kit came with a new E.R Shaw barrel, barrel nut wrench and headspace gauges. For $250 it was too good of a deal to pass on.

I have Shaw barrels in 222 Rem and 416 Taylor, they’re both excellent shooters.

I don’t know if it is powerful enough for squirrels, Vic. I may have to stick to chipmunks with this one

I don't know how yours are there in PA but, Here in MO we have a few, albeit rare, saber toothed skwerls. I turned the charge of one back about 15 years ago with a Matt Avance 69 cal. smoothbore pistol at literally a few feet. Haven't had to do that since, thank the good Lord!! My gun bearer and I followed him into the tall grass and finished it off with a 69 cal. fowler.

I got the barrel put on the action Sunday. Next is to get the thumb hole stock completed.

As a side note, I believe I’ll be switching to an action wrench for all future projects. I had a hard time removing the original barrel with the barrel vise. Someone had the barrel not extremely tight.

This would span the entire range of critters in PA from Chipmunk (which BTW are protected here..) to the ever increasing populations of Mountain Lions and Bigfoot we have (yet somehow remain unseen.).

If you have a garden, if it's ever raided by Cape buff. or pachyderm's you're all set. I keep a few full house 450/400 rounds loaded for just such an exigency. To date I haven't needed them.....:D

Well, that's better than not being prepared. I know guys who have got up on Sunday morning, looked out the window at their gardens and saw two or three elephants dining on their tomato's. 'Course that was after a long Saturday night of revelry and the elephants were pink. Those giys aren't normally liars...but....
