So, he decides hydro power should be shut down in favor of fishes.

    From Congressman Doc Hastings:

Having lived here (Washington State) all of my 52 years, and witnessed first hand the destruction of the river fish population, I have to say it's NOT the DAMS!

    It's the Boldt decision.

Fish need to get to the hatcheries. Being gill netted in the rivers, grabbing the eggs from the hens, and letting the meat rot on the banks is NOT conducive to healthy fish populations.

    I really HATE this topic.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    Did I mention...:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

    What's next?

Solar cuz it detracts from global warming???

Sorry, but I havta go now......

obama sure got a lot of things on the agenda. maybe he is trying to divert attention from one issue to another whenever the heat gets on him. the old 'bait and switch'? i hope he does not get anything passed through. if we, the people, keep on him, maybe we can block some of the issues that are not good for america, like everything he says and does. if we can block this socialist idiot, then america might have a chance to make a strong comeback.

    Keep both barrels loaded!

No Hydro-power, No new drilling for oil and gas, tax coal out of existence, no new nukes and retire existing ones, use wind at four times current cost of energy and solar at 10 times the cost. In ten years the only electric homes will belong to Lawyers and Congressmen. The rest of us will be lighting our homes with tallow and cooking on the BB-Q pit if we can get a permit for burning. Wake up people Obama intends to destroy this nation.

Have they collected silt samples at the base of the dam? Will Hanford be affected, and if so how?

Are these dams not engineered with ladders? Growing up on the Rogue the Salvage Creek Dam had ladders and we'd watch the fish climb right up the ladders and go on their merry way.

If the data is correct, and I do have to question the data, then there has to modify the existing structure without going to the extreme of removing it. Think outside the box people. We are innovators not destroyers.

Oh and if you are going to build the wind farms etc. then you probably build the infrastructure first. I'm just saying it might be a good idea.

I do not appreciate the insinuation that the logger doesn't know how to log sustainably, the oil man just wants to pollute the waters and coal miners want to destroy the land and streams. Most of my experiences have proved this attitude moronical.

How 'bout moving the pendulum back to the middle - regulation, but comprehensive regulation. Use it, don't abuse it.

During tha last election obama ran commercials in the coal mining areas claiming that he supports "clean coal" technology. The miners supported obama thinking he meant that he supported coal.

They didn't figure out until it was too late that in obama's eyes there is no coal mined today that is clean enough.

A couple links on how damn bad dams are.

    Largest run since the 60s?

    Largest since 2001?

As I said, dams are not the problem.

Rain is free. Snow is free. Hydro is cheap. We have no coal, and all our nukes have been deactivated.

Where do we get our power from? And to whos' benefit?
We have too much water, so we sell it to other states. We have too much power, so we sell it to other states.

All the while, our state gubmint shoves eco-green down our throats. Us citizens pay more for water and power than those we sell it to. How does that work?

What we need to do is reverse the Boldt decision, and check back in 10 years. Fat chance....

Sorry peeps, but I gotta wonder what's really going on here.

About the only concern I have with dams on migratory fish waters is their effect on the fry or smolts. Has anyone found a way to divert the downstream migrators from entering the penstocks ? >MW

We have reduced the passage of smolts and kelts through the penstocks tremendously over that past 20 years. We still get some into the penstocks, but the loss is pretty small, now. The loss through the penstocks at all the dams on the Snake and Columbia combined is less than the increase of hatch due to our hatchery system. The money the dams earn pays for a net increase in the number of fish returning to the ocean.

    I think I get it.

It's not about the fish at all.
If he destroys the dams, he destroys the farming.:mad:
I wonder if the farmers could learn how to fish.
Ya think all those extra fish could make up for the loss of millions of tons of agriculture?

Why doesn't the guy just come out and endorse the Soylent Green method?
    Oh wait....
    He's already done that.:(

Hmmm, we had over 10,000 recreational fisherman at Buoy 10 just outside the Columbia River bar in a 1 month period this year for salmon and sturgeon fishing. Everything I have heard on other forums is everyone is getting their limit within an hour of throwing out lines. Doesn't seem like a problem to me.
