found I also have a irv johnson arms .32 cal break action 5 shot revolver. From what I can research, appears to be an 1896 blackpowder s&w cartridge gun, decent shape for the age. maybe a 30-40% gun. any ideas. I'm thinking maybe a $50 to $100 piece?

A picture would help, but as described, the value would be close to your lower figure. There is collector interest in IJ revolvers, but there were so many that only ones in the very best condition bring any respectable price. Guns in poor condition or non-functional have essentially no value. Dealers won't buy them or take them on trade because they can't sell them for enough to cover the cost of the paperwork. And since parts are often not avaiable, no one would offer any kind of guarantee.
