I do not know much about these guns. That last picture is pretty blurry but if that is the mainspring in the grip, then it is black powder only (from what I have learned after reading a thousand of these posts) There are several folks on the forum who can tell you about your gun but to be able to find out when it was made, you need to take a picture of the serial number on the left side of the grip area.

George, I don't see any main spring at all, all I see is a shadow cast by the frame.

Your revolver is an Iver Johnson 2nd Model Safety Automatic chambered in .38S&W that had been reblued sometime in the past.
It was made in 1896 and was designed for black powder ammunition.
