Question about M1 Carbine

    Is it possible to know something more about this rifle (when it was produced) if i have a serial number. It is 404946.

    If that's a complete SN then please edit your post and replace the last three numbers with XYZ or something else to hold the place and retain anonymity.

    Again, if that's a complete number then it could have been made by GM (Inland) and fall about half way through the first block of serial numbers assigned to them. They (Inland) made well over 2 million of them.

    If it's a commercail model, then I have no idea about who made it or when.

    I just found out my M1 Carbine was made by National Postal Meter. Took it to a Gunsmith to have it checked and cleaned he used words like Excellent, very nice and pristine. Said it didn't beed cleaning and didn't charge me a cent. I still have a smile on my face.
