I recently purchased two boxes of ,223 ammo; one box of Winchester, the other was Federal both new quality ammo wuth 50 grain bullets. Previously I had fired about 50 rounds of Remington Remington in my new Remington 700 with a 1/10 twist and a Lietz 4X12 scope with all srews torqued down to speck's. Fired about 20 rounds of each in 4 round sequences at mwasured 90 yard targets with the gun in a Lead Sled for stability; I wand to set the scope to the strike of the bullet..
NO 4 rounds were ever in a group smaller than 4 to 5 inches with an occasional round 5 to 6 inches out of group.
My friend gave me 16 rounds of his reloads that he had carefully reloaded and they shot groups of 3 inches.
four things came to mind;
1. has the ammo manufactures ignored product control in order to get the ammo out to the AR-15 crown and the quality of the ammo has went down.
2. Was something wrong with my new high dollar scope.
3. Do I have a bad barrel.
4. Could it be a combination of problems.
Another friend suggested I should go to 64 grain bullets since the barrel is a 1 in 10 twist.
Please give me your input so I can either fix the problem or go back to reloading my own again.
