Might someone venture a value for this fine old fella I adopted back in the late 1970s. Theres a P on top just in front of rear site. Inspector mark in front of top left grip is unevenly stamped. Looks lide FOA ???? Just perfect bore.
The Inspector for your pistol was "FJA" (Frank J. Atwood), and that is what those marks are. That P on top of the slide is just an inspection proof mark. I don't recall exactly, but the Colt's Inspector on my 1911A1` was "GHD" (Guy H Drewry from #845,000 to about 2,360,000 for Colt's). That is one fine authentic 1911A1. You're going to get better estimates than I can provide, but I'd expect it to fetch above $850. Most people look for Colt's, but your pistol was a very common, reliable and well made service pistol. I handled numbers of 1911A1 pistols for classes that I presented in the 60s and 70s during Army Instructor Training, and few - if any - of those issue pistols were comparable in condition to yours. (Most of ours could almost be field-stripped with a good hard shake)
Thanks. I was wanting to see what year ands yes, it is a 43. Here's a really good book you should get. I bought it when I had a 43 Ithaca.
