    Hi guys -
My neighbor has a pistol which has all the correct markings of a Remington Rand M 1911 A1. Problem: the Serial number is 2,629,673! My information is that the last gun made by Remington Rand was either 2,465,139 or 2,619,013. Either way - this gun is numbered later than that. The trigger, grips and barrel are all aftermarket. It has a parkerized finish - but is more black than the light gray of the later manufactured guns. It is a great shooter. One other note: The serial number on the gun is stamped with a capitol N and a small o that is underlined, then the number. Other Remington Rand pistols start the serial number with NO. (period) then the number. Any thoughts??

Sounds like a parts gun with a Rem-Rand slide and a Ithaca frame.

Oklahoma by birth. America by the grace of God.
Between WWII, Korea and Vietnam the government's arsenal of 1911A1's were built, rebuilt and rebuilt again. I'm sure as the .45's were sold off as surplus there were numerous mixed-matched and "parts" guns in the bunch.
