Rough Rider Issue

402 Views 18 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Rae Harrison
Last week I purchased a Rough Rider that came with both cylinders. The 22lr functions perfectly but the 22 WMR cylinder is the issue. When ejecting the casings two of the chambers won't eject, the cases are stuck in the chamber. I actually have to use a needle nose pliers to pull the spent cases out of those 2 chambers. Has anyone else had an issue like this? Any ideas on a fix?

Contact the manufacturer and tell them they sold you a defective product. Hopefully they will replace the bad cylinder with a good one.

If new..get a new cylinder.. If it's out of warranty..check those holes for mouth dents n polish them.

Had the same problem. I used some fine wet/dry sand paper and polished the cylinder. It started ejecting fine after that.

If it is new, send it back, you should not have to fix a problem that you did not create.

Sounds like a couple of “rough” cylinder chambers. You can either polish them with a little Flitz on a patch over a bore brush hooked to a drill. OR send it back.

very likely if it is just the cyl.. that's all that will have to go back.. the cyl isn't a gun.. it can come and go via usmail...

Here's an UPDATE. I called Heritage yesterday and since my Rough Rider is under warranty they are sending me a new magnum cylinder. I let you know when I get it. Thanks for the responses.

Do they want the old cylinder back or do you get to keep it? If they don't want it back you can polish the chambers and have a pair of them. That might come in handy if you get another one with only the .22 s, l, lr cylinder.

Those two chambers havea little extra "roughness" in them , the brass from the 22 magnum , which is a faily high pressure round , is grabbing onto the rough spots and holding on . The cure is to polish the chambers out untill they is baby-butt smooth and have nothing to hold onto ... Don't over-do-it ... an enlarged chamber has it's own problems ... just polish them all smooth - smooth , don't remove any/much metal ...just polish smooooth and done !

I'm glad to hear.... They seem like they want to do a good business. I'm very pleased with mine, I haven't gotten a Magnum cylinder yet.... But can't wait to get some better weather. Let me know @Oaktree45 about sighting it.

When you get the new cylinder be sure and check timing / indexing along with smooth extraction .
Sometimes a cylinder drops right in and works fine but occasionally the cylinder needs "fitting" to time and index correctly ... don't swap one problem for another .
The original cylinder chambers that stick should be a easy fix... Nice to have a back up !

UPDATE: The new WMR cylinder came in the mail today and it works perfectly. That's first-class customer service from a company selling an inexpensive (cheap) handgun. I bought my Heritage Rough Rider from Bass Pro Shops for $129 and it came with both cylinders.

I still can't decide if I want to change the weathered American Flag grip with something more traditional.
