IMG_6075.JPG Drop the bolt release; if that doesn't work; then you have a problem with the bolt release being damaged.

Turn the bolt release into an auto bolt release and end most of those troubles

Its a fairly easy swap to make

Thanks guys I fell like a real dumba$$. I have owned this for about 30 years and didn't know what this for. We were out squirrel hunting and I had to make a trip home to get a backup and return to the woods. Sure do feel kind stupid right about now. and its going to be worse when I have to admit this to my buddy.

I'm sure the 10/22 bolt lock was designed by the same engineer that designed the Mark 1 takedown.....

I had to take my bolt out and clean it. It was very easy to do. They can get gummed up after a lot of rounds.

That is a GREAT idea. Tell him that you fixed it. When he asks 'What was the problem' - tell him "It was broken". When he asks 'What was broken' - just tell him "The dang rifle" When he asks 'What was the problem with the rifle' tell him "It was busted".

Like my kids did with me when they were teenagers - just lead your answers in a circle. He'll give up eventually and your embarrassment will be gone. Other than that - don't say anything.;)

Funny thing about the Ruger bolt-hold open feature: It seems to work best when you don't mean to use it.

Stupid is not admitting that you don't know and Not asking. Believe me; you won't get flamed on this forum for asking. We may give you a light hearted ribbing; but we all realize that someone that has the smarts to ask is someone who isn't going to be next to us on the range being an idiot. We're all learning something every day and hope you can share your experiences with us. Stick around for awhile; you may just make a few friends and have some fun.

    This is easy.
You had to clean it because it was all gummed up from using it all the time.
Once it was clean it worked fine.
