I was looking at the bolt after cleaning the rifle and adjusting the trigger.
I grabbed the bolt and twisted the bolt shroud and it went click.

I don't know enough about the position of the firing pin back to recognize if I have gone too far.
If I twisted in one direction by one click, can I just go backward one click?
I don't want to break anything.

I have the manual but I think i am missing something.

It looks to me like the shroud needs to turn clockwise (looking from the rear) about 60 degrees. You are liable to meet some resistance when doing this. See if you can pull the rectangular shaped widget to the rear as you rotate the shroud. That should position it so you can re-insert the bolt in the receiver.
