    Greetings folks,

My dad passed on last year and left me a Smith & Wesson revolver - Model 31-1 in .32 S&W Long. He bought it in 1982, and had only fired 6 rounds through it. It was his nightstand gun for 32 years.

    S/n- H1349xx

    Photo attached.

Any information regarding date of manufacture and present value would be appreciated. I have the original box, accessories, and papers. No bill to indicate what it cost to buy back in '82. Could someone shed some light on this.

Thank you for your time folks!

    S&W serial numbers used for the Model 31 in 1975 - 1980 were H100001 through H139900.

Thank you for the clarification gentlemen.

Could you tell me if the HKS J32 speed loader would be suitable for use with the 31-1.

Yes it would. The J32 was made specifically for J-frame 32 caliber Smith and Wessons (which is why it has that model number :p)

Both Rossi and Taurus make copies of the J, in 32, and whether it would work with either of them - I don't know. But an actual Smith and Wesson - no problem.

    Al(I got several S&W 32 Js)po

Also (couple of thoughts) - AIM surplus has 32 ammo for sale. I load for mine, so don't know if this is cheap or not, but since 32 S&W normally is around 30 bucks a box, 18 for 32 S&W Long seems pretty good.

3-inch J-frame is a sweet size, but if you wish to carry it you are gonna have a hard time finding a holster.

You might check DeSantis for a holster. I had a devil of a time finding one for my 696 S&W and they had one. An L frame 4 inch was no problem but an L frame 3 inch was a bit of a challenge.
