I may have the chance to buy one of these soon.
I've wanted one but the nice ones are getting harder to find
    I have a few questions:

What can go wrong with these?
Are there any common problems, like extractors?
The one I'm looking at has been fired very little and just stored away.

Do you guys have a feel for current market value on a blued 5904 at 95%?

    Thanks in advance
    DB

I'm not up on values, but the 5900 series tend to be very robust and reliable pistols. Mine have been similar guns with the steel rather than aluminum frame, the 5906s. I've maintained a small stock of extra parts for S&W semi-autos for many years. Still waiting to use them. The little trigger play spring has been known to break, but the gun still functions reliably. Reportedly some LE customers ordered their 3rd. Gen guns specifically without the trigger play spring.

You asked about extractors. While I did have issues with both 1st., and a 2nd. Gen. gun, I've had no extractor issues with any of the several 3rd. Gen. guns I've had.

I wish that I could help with value, but I really can't. The 5906 has been on my list for a long time. I've heard nothing but good reviews on them. The 6900 series, a different story.

    Thanks guys
I'm going to watch some online auctions and see what the ending prices are and just base value from that considering similar condition

If you find some at a fair price, order 2, I'm good for one :D.

One of the guys on my trap team has one. It is his everyday carry gun. He says he never had a problem with it. About 5 years ago Cabela's and my LGS had a bunch of them new in the box. S&W must have found a warehouse full. I was tempted to buy one but never got around to it.

New in the box? The only ones that I've seen were police trade ins.

I have one in the shop to be restored. It must be a good gun because the owner loves it enough to put a chunk of money in it to make it look new.

    I had a S&W nickle plated model-59 for quite a few years.It was a great gun.I shouldn't have sold it.
It was very similar to the one you want.
