I don't have the Axis in the .223, but in the .30-06 and it is a very accurate firearm. 3 rounds of 168 grain under a quarter at 100 yards. Not bad for a inexpensive rifle! I'll bet the .223 is just as good. Savage makes a very nice rifle at any price.

For the money my wife paid for her Savage Axis in .223 Rem. I have been very impressed by how accurate it is, so far anyway. So much so that I have now bought one of my own in a left handed model. A range report will follow someday if this rotten Indiana weather ever breaks. :)
