One of my sons has decided he wants a short-barreled shotgun. The best I can figure it would be a Title 2 firearm(?). OR he would require a Manufacturers permit(?).

In any case he will need to fill out the proper form(s), get signatures from his local sheriff, and submit the paperwork to the ATF, with a check for $200, and wait, wait, wait.

Am I on the correct path?

Sorry, I wasn't specific!! He has bought a double barreled 12 gauge hammer shotgun and wants to cut off the barrels (I didn't even asked why - LOL).

He can legally cut them off to 18 inches which is pretty short. I would stop at 18 1/4 to be on the safe side.

No local LEO sign off is needed anymore.
Go to the ATF web site, download the forms, fill them out, and send them in with a $200 check.
Wait quite a while. When the tax stamp/approval comes back, cut up the gun.
No manufacturer permit is required. He will need to engrave his name, city, state on the frame.

Buy a muzzleloading side by side and cut it as short as you want no waiting and 100 percent legal!

A simple search of the web (Pedersoli 20ga Howdah Hunter) will bring up dixie gun works, cabelas, and a few others. Check them out.

Okay, why would a double barreled 20 ga shotgun with pistol grip be listed in black powder revolvers???

Stuck me as kinda odd too, but that's where Taylor chose to list it.
