Anyone around here listen to shortwave radio? I recently procured a shortwave radio. I enjoy tuning in on talk radio programs late at night. Anyone have any suggestions on good stations I might pick up?

Here's the radio I got off of ebay:

Grundigs are good radios. When I was a kid I use to listen to the propaganda programs coming out of Russia and Cuba. It was neat stuff for a kid back in the early 60's. Shortwave is cool.

Somebody had a thread going just the other day about SW radios.

Hey thanks! That's a good thread. I guess I did good on the radio choice. One reason I bid on this one was because the seller was in my home town and I could drive right there and pick it up.

I've been working on my "General" Ham license for a while. I love anything "radio" as much as I love anything "Gun". :D:D

    Enjoy!! :)

When I was a little kid, I found I found a 'Halcrafters' (?) shortwave unit in my Uncles attic. I carried it downstairs and with his help, set it up in my bedroom. I remember listening to BBC in the wee small hours, midst all the churps and whistles. Do they still 'chime the time'?

Yes they still chime the time.
Grundig is a good brand, one of the few left still making them. there are good websites that have mapped the bands so you know, most of the time what your listening.
I'll remember the name of one or two, haven't listened for years but grew up listening with Grandad.

If I remember correctly, they played an eclectic mix of music, along with news and commentary. The first time I heard Marty Robin’s ‘El Paso’ was over the BBC; irony, to say the least!

I used to listen to Radio Moscow(before they went kaput) the BBC, Radio Japan,HCJB Voice of the Andes, Radio Nederlands from the Antillies and a bunch of others. You can probably google a schedule of the SW broadcasts. I have a book where I recorded the frequencies and times of transmissions but it is at our cabin.

I still have a couple of old "Nationals" that still work. As a kid I would tune in WBZ in Boston and WPTR in NY to listen to the Beatles as in NH all they played was Big Band.

Colorado might not catch numbers stations as well as some places nearer the coasts, but you might see if you can find any of those. I've always found them intriguing / slightly creepy.
