Got some 45 acp with small primers. My cousin traded off his desert eagle 45 and gave me the rest of his ammo. It was a mixed bag and included a bunch of hollow points my gun hates so I fought them in to get them fired off so I could load up some 230 rn. In the mix of brass was a couple dozen federals that take small primers. Checked for a crimp and there wasn't one. Struck me as odd so I figured I would throw it out there

They loaded up just fine. Curious why the manuals haven't caught up. Bought the new Sierra book a year ago it still only lists large.

I don't see why the manuals would have to catch up, small primers in the .45 ACP are not the norm!

Wish small primers were the norm, saves me from changing over the press :D

Haven't seen a single piece of small primer .45 brass over here though.

Have a number of the small primer .45 ACP and just use them when I don't really care about loosing them. So far they've been as good as the large pistol primer ammo.

The small amount of powder in the,45 doesn't realy justify a large primer, it definitely insures good ignition though.

Nothing wrong with SP 45 brass as long as you keep it seperated.

Nothing at all. Just complicates the priming process until you get them all rooted out. Did 100 rounds last night and found ten

That's fine if you're using a single stage press. If you are doing progressive and going along fat, dumb, and happy ,then hit a small primer pocket it puts a sudden stop to everything.

That's true. Most of my loading is rifle, working up hunting loads and keeping it as consistent as possible so I just run single stage. I can bang out volume measured 45's in a hurry though once I get a rhythm going

back years ago when I first ran into it, I was using a old Lee Loadmaster and boy was that exciting
it took me an hour until I looked at the primer hole and figured out what I had, up until that day, I had never heard of them

Every time you think you got something figured out somebody has to do something different and screw it all up
