Solved, garand now cycles here’s why

Since my last post was locked because y’all went overboard over ammo… I’m going to follow up and say I’ve solved it. The clip on the left is a newer clip with cheapcommercial ammo was the worst for cycling. The one on the right is the original USGI clips with proper garand ammo and works perfectly. I also tested Garand ammo in the new clip didn’t cycle. And viceversa. I tell you, these guns are picky. The clip on the right was a bit smaller, and pushed in making the ammo a bit harder to get in. But for some reason thesparkly clip on the left liked holding onto the ammo when cycling. Also cleaning this thing is annoying. CMP box ate the pin finally found it.

Glad you got it working right . Garands are a great piece of history and a blast to shoot .

Very blessed to own a beautiful creation. My state is currently pushing hard to ban semi autos. I’m partially Canadian so seeing the ban they did hurts my soul. I used everything I saved after working so hard to own this gun. Been my favorite gun since 4 years old.

I don't know what clips my brother uses in his, probably milsurps, but he's run Hornady American Whitetail and ammo I've made for him with 150gr standard Interlocks and FMJ's, no problem.

Glad you found your problem. All of my stuff is old (including me) and my newest M1 clips are 1958 USGI issue - I've never used the newer/cheaper after market clips. Let us NOT dive into the ammo question again. Do as you like. Enjoy your rifle!

That was because of one moron posting FUD that would get someone hurt, he won't be back here. I suspected the problem was the clips. I had the same problem in my 06 and .308 Garands. Work flawless with USGI issued clips, but anything else were nothing but problems. I have yet to figure out why, they're all the same dimensions. Glad you got it figured out, and it was a cheap fix!

FYI, you may already know and even said it I just don't recall, they do make a 5 round clip so if desired you can go hunting with it I did purchase some at a gun show so I can if I want too.

Guess I was lucky when I got my Garand . It came with about 10 clips and never had to pick up anymore for it . Not sure if there G.I. issue or not but figured sooner or later would need to start swapping a few out but knock on wood so far so good . Wonder what the life span is for them clips . After was brought up I remember hearing of others having issues with either cheap made or just poor quality made clips .

Wonder that myself, some of the ones from WWII have the makers logo and date on them. The ones that work the best in my rifles, were well used before I got them.

Back in the 80s when i was in the Air Force i threw away hundreds of garand clips.I'd take my Honor Guard out for training often and the result was lots of empty clips. Had 8 or 9 ammo boxes filled with them. Threw the bxs away too. I wish i would have saved them. Had a buddy years later almost hyperventilate when i told him. Back then i'd get a supply of blanks every month and i was running out of places to store everything.

I've probably got 200-250 of the enbloc clips, but they are all full of ammo.

I spent a whole overtime check when the CMP had the last of the LC Match ammo up for sale. Buddy and I went in halves on it, and we may have bought everything they had left! When milsurp ammo was dirt cheap, I loaded up with everything I could afford. No idea what the round count is now, but I know there's at least a half ton, if not more stacked up. Ammo hoarder? Why yes, yes I am.

I acquired all of mine many years ago, mostly from the CMP, some is LC and a goodly amount the good Greek stuff, when they had it. I also got some of the Korean stuff which I hear is not all that safe to shoot. I opened a spam can or two of it when I first got it and usually just reload them as I shoot it.

The Korean ammo I got all went bang with no problems, but I've never seen any ammo that corrosive before. If you left the gun overnight without cleaning it, it was a mess in the morning.
