George Washington was born in February. Abraham Lincoln was born in February. Yet, Washington was born near the end of the year, and Lincoln was born near the beginning of the year. Explain.

Why the year starts in the middle of winter has always puzzled me.

The New Year used to begin in the Spring, when the world was being "reborn". That makes much more sense. Then they changed the calendar. When George was born, New Years was April First., so he was born near the end of the year. By the time Lincoln was born, about a hundred years later, the calendar had been changed and New Years was now January First.

As an aside, people that refused to accept that it had changed, and insisted that New Years was in April, were called April Fools.

+1 for Alpo. You nailed it.

My research shows that the year Washington was born (1732) the first day of the new year in England and the colonies was March 25th. March 24th, 1731 was followed the next day by March 25th, 1732.

Instead if a cigar I would prefer some 250 grain RNFP lead hardcast bullets in .452 size. Just saying, cause I need to reload some more 45 colt. ;)
