I am trying to find out why the name Springfield was added to the name of the rifle. What I did find out was Savage bought out Stevens in 1920,nothing about the Springfield name. Any help would be appreciative. Cliff
Savage was considered top of the line. Stevens was a mid grade "Utility" gun. And Springfield was added as the low cost budget line. Generally the simpler models. With the primary differences being un-named "Hardwood" stocks instead of Walnut. Simple sights instead of peep sights etc. Generally a low cost budget version of an existing model in the Savage/Stevens line.
