Ok guys n gals
Stevens / Savage 311a SXS in 16 gauge... the barrel is stamped "proof 16 gauge 2 3/4"...
I would assume that means 16 gauge 2 3/4 shells... but for some reason I hesitate on saying OK... reason being, I thought I had read here, there, or some where, that the older shot guns.. when stating the shell length.. meant the "fired"' length.. vs. the un fired length. Does this make sense?
Am i loosing it? or am i just being over cautious?

Shotgun shells are measured fired. If you measure a 2 3/4 shell unfired its 2 1/2.

So.. if the barrel is stamped 2 3/4 .. and the box of shells reads 2 3/4, but I measure said box of shells you subtract 1/4 .... oh never mind..
Kidding about the above...
So a box of 2 3/4 should be good! I got that one right.. correct?
