I may have finally found a seller. I had been trying to find a Spartan 3 in 9mm. This place also shows to have an Escort. Anyone with thoughts on these 2 and which they prefer appreciated.

I know Sams opinion of the spartan but that is a full size he has. They are good guns for the money. I sold Sam his gun and have sold about a dozen other spartans too. Some were 3" and I never heard any complaints. I dont know anything about the escort.

I own a number of STI pistols and have yet to be disappointed. While I don't have a Spartan I did recently pick up an Escort. It's an excellent carry piece. The aluminum frame shaves off the weight. Mine is in 9mm so it's easy to shoot and very accurate for a 3" pistol. Not sure what's on the Spartan, but the Escort has nice low profile Novak style adjustable sights. While I've only got about 500 rds through it, so far it's run very well without any issues. Like all STIs it's very smooth and has an excellent trigger. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view) my wife loves the Escort. Easy for her to rack and recoil isn't an issue even with the lighter frame. I'm afraid "my" Escort is going to become "her" Escort.

I have a couple of STIs, although not the Escort and my Spartan is full sized. That said, I just don't think you can go wrong with any of the STI pistols, they are good quality 1911s and the company has excellent customer service (and it doesn't matter if you are the original owner or not). You might want to consider the weight difference, cost (I assume the Escort is considerably more expensive), and whether it is important to you that the Spartan slide and frame are not made by STI (although they do go through STI QA).

No the spartan frames are made by Armscor. Made in the Phillipines. I was under the impression all of their frames were Armscor but what do I know.

Armscor manufactures the Spartan frame, slide and barrel to STI specs (on a separate line). All the internal parts are made by STI. After the guns are assembled, they are shipped to STI for quality control and distribution. All warranty work is done by STI.

All the other STI models are manufactured in Georgetown, TX.

as far as 1911's go that are considered mass produced, ie not Ed Brown or Les Baer they are on top of the game. the Escort is a very good gun. The spartan commander is also a good piece when you can find them, I've seen a few come in but for the price they don't last long.
