Since the shortage of ammo ive been looking into making my own .224 bullets from 22lr shells. Does anyone have any insight about the idea. is it worth it? where can one pick up a set of dies for under $500. corbin is just to expensive to spend if its not gunna work out. its just a thought but im really getting interested in it. have anyone made their own bullets for the AR?

Unfortunately, swaging is not cheap - depending on tooling and operator skill excellent bullets can be made --
The tooling is very expensive and there is only a few sources for it.
The jackets, if not made from 22rf, are also rather expensive.
You also need to either cast cores or cut them from lead wire -- not cheap.
If you investigate half-jackets you will find they can be made with somewhat less tooling cost.
A trip to the castboolits forum may prove helpful.
