United States Naval Construction Battalions - better known as Seabees (a heterograph of the first initials - "C.B.") comprise U.S. Naval Construction Forces (NCF).

Combat engineers tasked with construction and demolition, the Seabees were initially raised in the Second World War to meet the needs of the "Island Hopping" campaign, in which the U.S. military sought to control strategically important - but often underdeveloped - islands en route to Japan. They have been responsible for the construction of hundreds of miles of airstrips and roadways, the dredging of harbors, and building of piers and other support facilities.
