| Del All Tribute to New York's Bravest (and my Dad)

It was a picturesque morning in the land of the free
A terror heading our way no one could foresee

Trained to act fast and be first on the scene
Firemen don’t stop to think what that could mean

By being so selfless they had sealed their fate
Succumbing to the terror, the pain and the hate

While everyone ran out before the towers could fall
New York’s bravest ran in to try to save them all

I shivered when I heard that my father was called in
To search for his fellow brothers who have fallen

He did not take the time to fear his own life
Nor comprehend the death and the terrible strife

The loss of a brother Firefighter is too often a sad tale
But never before on such a large scale

My father survived, though many of his friends did not
It makes me eternally grateful for all that I’ve got

I’m proud of my father who worked and strove to be chief
Never imagining it could cause him such profound grief

The hurt doesn’t end, though my father will live
His task is not over, he has much more to give

Fathers, husbands, brothers and friends
In life and in death their courage never ends

This world has forever changed from that one fateful day
When cowardly terrorists tried to take our freedom away

People everywhere will never stop feeling the sorrow
But find comfort in knowing we will defend our tomorrow

Excellent, Winter. I wish the best for you and your Dad and all of our heroic firefighters everywhere. These are a gang of heros that a lot of us take for granted but Sept the 11th was a wake-up call in many, many ways.

And I'm here to tell you, that Homer can write some "Roses"
poems, like you've never heard..........and never will again.
