Well decided to process all rifle brass and loadup...Resized 450 .06 to 6.5x06......no easy trimmers except special order so I'm doing them with the good old Lyman, have a power shaft for it.....Has anyone actually had the adjustment rings stay in place for more than 3 brass?I can;t trust it as is.

I'm having an "Old Guy" moment here, Zant. Is that "6.5X06" a wildcat round? Never heered of that one before. I trim all of my brass with a Lyman trimmer. I'm cheap so I just use the crank with my calloused fingers. When I have a large volume to trim I use the Lee el-cheapo case trimmers with my little bench top drill press. I just did 400 Korean .223 cases that way. Went pretty quickly.

I've never had any problems with the adjustment rings on my Lyman trimmer. Mine stay put for some reason. I just torque them down with an Allen wrench and crank away like a maniac. I just finished up with about 1000 assorted .30-06 cases and it hasn't budged. Did I mention my calloused fingers?

Yes,it;s a wildcat now but was a factory round way back when.....Yes,same Lyman trimmer-I'll try cranking on the allen and see if they stay in spec..

One time the rings on my Lyman trimmer slipped a little bit and all I can think of is I didn't grt them both tight. It never happened before or since and I've had that thing 40 years.

I bought the adapter for a battery drill and I guess I'm too stupid to make it work good. I went back to manual trimming...and end up with blackened fingers and trimmed brass.

You might try cleaning off any old grease from the pilot shaft, re-lube with gun grease and tighten down the lock screws. Make sure the allen wrench fits the screw heads. Just "tight" ought to do it. I check the clearance at the rear of the shaft to make sure there are no brass cuttings to throw off my adjustment. Another thing I do is use one case that is trimmed to length and mark it with a permanent marker and keep that case in my die set box. Makes set up faster the next time I trim for that caliber.

Now if only I can find a reasonably priced replacement cutter head..... The ones I've found so far are almost 1/2 the price of a whole new trimmer.

Your lucky you got three trimmed before it slipped. I moved to L. E. Wilson. A bit more expensive, but they make a great product.

I just use the little lee hand trimmer set up in a bench top drill press. Let the drill motor turn the brass and just hand feed the trimmer, deburer, bore brush, and wiper.

All those little hand turner jobs all look like trying to build a ship in a bottle to me. Some things just don't have to be that difficult or costly.

On My Lyman , the set screws had a Plastic Bead, under them, so the shaft would Not be Marred..
I had luck putting a small lead shot instead... but YMMV tho I would Not simply put the set screw against the Shaft... it would certainly Cure the Movement!!!

The same as others here, I've never had one move when tightened with some authority and I prep brass by the thousands. This is why I only use carbide cutter heads also.

Zant, as I mentioned in a previous thread I switched to a Lyman Xpress which works from the case shoulder and is much less complex to use than WFTs and other similar tools. No need of a drill and when bench mounted can be quickly run with one hand.

BTW that 6.5-06 is a great round with the right twist rate and why it never caught on I have no idea.

My absolute best with the rifle is 9.98" at 1000yds-took me a lot of 10rd groups with 120s to achieve it...and 3 people spotting and laughing:giggle:
