From the 1939 Stoeger catalog:

What would become known as the 'P38' was not yet in production at the time the '39 Stoeger catalog went to print. It was introduced to the American buyer as the Walther HP Army Pistol.

I wondered, when I read that, how many folks ordered (and pre-paid) Super 38s or 45s.
