    This was shot with 4 different caliber guns. a .17 HMR (17gr) a 22-250 (55gr) a 30-06 (Hornady A-max 155gr) and a .308 win ( Federal Premium gold medal 169gr fired from an FN-FAL) all at 100 yards.

The large top hole is from the 30-06 the lower large hole is from the .308 the small silver spots are from the .17 HMR and the medium holes are from the 22-250. The one that is not all the way through was from a 22-250 hitting the plate at an angle after it had been rotated by previous shots.
We put a cardboard box behind the target to see what the effect was behind it and it looked like some one unloaded a .410 shot gun in to it from 10 feet away

So this proves that it is not safe to hide from high powered rifles behind standard 3/8" steel. we also had a large circular piece of 5/16" steel that i threw away that we shot at with the 22-250 and a 308 Reiminton 700, at 400 yards and it was held up by a 2x4. The 22-250 rounds made large/deep indentations and the 308 blasted through the steel and through the 2x4 embedding the round and pieces of steel in a tree 15 feet behind it! after that we shot the 5/16" with hand guns and 12ga slugs at 25 yards. All the handgun rounds did was disintegrate (9mm .45ACP and .357 magnum) only the 357 dented the steel. As for the 12ga.... it left indentations larger than a half dollar.

The numbers for entry exit are as follows.
    Entry 22-250: .29in
    Exit 22-250: .53in

    Entry 30-06: .46in
    Exit 30-06: .52in

    Entry .308: .53in
    Exit .308: .61in

The metal welded was welded by me using 6 passes of E-6010 on each side. ;) had to make sure it wasn't going any where!

I bought a real nice set of steel spinners for the 22 LR and set them up at the local range one Tuesday. We where all have a good time and a Friend wanted me to walk over to range one to see his new rifle.
When I came back the 22 spinners looked like your steel plate and one member says " Dang Ron the SKS will shoot right through them steel plates.
1/4 inch plate at 25 yards and he was shocked it went through, never did offer to replace my new spinners either.

wow he was shocked that a 7.62x39 went through 1/4" steel at 25 yards. A .17HMR leaves a pretty nice dent in quarter inch plate at 25 let alone what a SKS would do.

Did you ever get a new set of spinners?

Tony after the fifth set was shot up by members with stuff like 30-06 30-30 8MM and other high power rifles I stopped buying them. I no longer shoot at that range so it doesn't matter any more.

I now do all my shooting just 186 miles south of you in Cuthbert Ga. You reall should think about coming to the 2010 shoot in May 2010 we have a blast every year.

Oh dont worry I will once I get my truck in working condition as seen in another post ha ha. I might see if an old friend of mine wants to come hes a former Marine DI with more guns than cornflakes in a box! I do most of my shooting at his Lake in Temple.

What is the rage like in Cuthbert?

Bullets from a hi-powered rifle are also pretty good about shooting through cinder block walls. The police in the North Hollywood Shootout found that out pretty quickly.

Funny, my "buddy" with an SKS did the same exact thing to my spinner. It had round steel plates at least 1/2" thick as it was for bigger pistols. He blasted holes right through it and thought it was funny to boot. What's up with those pesky SKS guys??? As you say he never offered to replace my spinner target either.:(

I still have around 3/4 case of the old Norinco 7.62X39. For those of you who might not know, those old bullets were steel core. As to these friends, and buddies, that shoot and destroy your property, well, lets just say that I wouldn't consider them as either friend or buddy. A real friend or buddy would have offered to pay for, or replace, those spinners ASAP.
