My 1954 model 74 shoots accurately, but jams on initial feeding and sometimes during sustained fire. I can only clear this by using my left hand middle finger into the breech area to assist the ctg into battery. I've stripped the piece prior to testing, but it still jams sometime. This is my 1st 74 and love it, but need input from other users.

Would have to see it. By 'assisting the cartridge into battery' do you mean that it has partially entered the chamber and you are pushing it directly into the chamber, or that it has not lifted into position to enter the chamber?
