I recently recieved 10 lbs. of win 452AA powder. My reloading manuals are too new to include this discontinued powder. Can anyone help withe some load data and bushing #'s for a mec reloader?

First of all, Welcome to the board, Uplander -

Next, I've poured all through my old reloading manuals (going back to the early 60's) and can find no reference to AA452. Sorry for the lack of help.

It is a shotshell powder. WST is now used for the same type loads. I have some old shotshell reloading manuals up at my dad's house and if it is shotshell recipes you are looking for I should be able to help you out. Which hulls is it you want to reload?

I see looking around the internet that 452 was also used in rifle and pistol reloading. That is a science that I have not dabbled in yet so I can't help there.

Here is a link to a google search that has a bunch of odds and ends to sift through about the 452 powder.

Hi, Uplander.

Got some Winchester data from 10th and 14th edition manuals.

But haven't a clue about Mec bushing numbers to use.

Is it 12 gauge you are loading? Let me know what you want and will try and relate what the manual has.

The manual has a lot of loadings.

Hi Gunguy

I'm loading #6 lead @ 1 1/8 oz.in win AA hulls, win 209 primers with WAA12 claybuster wads. Does your manual list a load that would give me alittle over a 1300ft velocity.

Thanks
Uplander

This ain't going to be easy for me as I don't load shotgun...but here goes.

1 oz. shot, primer Win. 209, 452AA powder 22.5 gr., wad Win. WAA12 gives 1290 fps velocity.

(sorry, it don't list 1 1/8 oz. shot for that high of a velocity)

When we get into 1 1/8 oz. shot the velocities go down into the 1145 to 1200 fps range.

The 1 1/8 oz. shot uses 21.0 grains of 452AA powder for 1200 fps. (all other components are the same)

Hope that helps.

Yup, as GG stated, there are no 1300 fps loads listed in my book for 1 1/8 oz loads. I have a MEC 650 Junior press for my 12 guage. I have the Lyman 2nd edition Shotshell handbook (1976) and I also found my MEC bushing guide that lists bushings from #10 to #43 for 452 powder. The most useful, in going through my Lyman book appear to be #29 to 33 so here goes:

29 - 19.4gr 452
30 - 20.3gr
31 - 20.9gr
32 - 21.7gr
33 - 22.4gr

Hope this helps. If you need any more bushing numbers, I can copy this list and send it to you. Shoot me an email and it will be on the way to your home address. I can also send copies of the loads in 1 and 1 1/8 oz. Happy shooting.

Thanks to all for answering my questions. I'll pick up a few more bushings for my reloader and start weighing out some of the suggested loads. Hopefully I'll find one that produces the patern I desire.

Thanks again
