WASHINGTON (AP) - Wyoming received a failing grade from the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence on how well the state's laws potect children from gun violence.

According to a release issued by the group, Wyoming received an F because it does not regulate possession or sale of guns by children, does not hold adults reponsible for leaving loaded guns around children, does not require guns to have child-safety locks and does not have handgun safety standards.

The Brady Campaign is chaired by Sarah Brady, whose husband Jim Brady, press secretary to former President Ronald Reagan, was shot and seriously wounded during an assassination attempt on Reagan.

Just a real tragedy isnt it??? The State of Wyoming relies on folks to take responsibility for their own actions. Now if we could just get the People's Republic of Minnesota to quit trying to legislate morality and do the same...we would all be a lot better off.

    Hey Swede,
Idaho got an 'F' too, fer just about the same reasons.
Them idiots don't realize that if'n the kids is taught about guns at an early age, they aren't likely to view them as 'toys'.
That's what comes from crammin' a buncha idgits into a small area and stackin'em on top of each other. SHEEPLE!!

OK Swede, now enlighten us about the incidence of children put in harm's way because Wyoming will not bend to PC behavior(Good for Wyoming) What Brady et al don't want the public to know is that where there is TOTAL handgun prohibition: i.e. Wash DC, there is an unbelievable amount
of criminally related handgun deaths(one of the highest rates per capita in the world)

We got a D-here in Arizona - Probably would'a got an "F" also, but the state passed out free gun locks to those who requested.

    and

    www.bradycampaign.org/pre...010703.asp

gives what these visitors from outer space think. My state, WA, got a D+, which is a real big whoop. Reasoning was:

"Washington again received a D+ because it does not hold adults responsible for leaving loaded guns around children, does not require child-safety locks to be sold with guns, and does not have any handgun safety standards. Washington also forces police to let people carry hidden handguns in public, and does not require background checks at gun shows. On a positive note, Washington does limit sale or possession of handguns by kids. In 2000, the most recent year for which data is available, 49 children and teenagers in Washington died from gunfire."

The part where we forced the police to allow us to carry really brought a tear to my eye.

Hey Oklahoma got a D-!!! Whoo Hoo!!!...a little more work and I am sure we can bring that down to F.

Well, at least we are first in some things, like, um, well, we are one of the nations largest consumers of Jello...and we
are very high on the rate of heart disease per capita...

Those are things we can be proud of...sorta...well...okay maybe not.

Well shucks, Michigan joined the list of failures by only getting a D+. With a little effort we could have done better and got it to an F.

We received a well deserved "demerit" because our State Law prevents local government lawsuits against the gun industry.

We got a D because we do not allow our cities to regulate where guns can be carried and the State only has minimal restrictions against carrying in public buildings.

Got an F in our Concealed Carry Weapons Law because we do not allow police discretion in issuance. Their report is flawed though because they state that the State has “no training and reciprocity" which is totally incorrect. We have mandatory completion of a 12 hour training session, to include live fire qualification, before a CCW can even be applied for. We also have reciprocity with a number of States.

I guess we could have done a bit more to achieve a lower grade, but is it really worth the effort? As it stands right now we're doing O.K.

Its rumored that Wyoming's response to the Brady Bunch was:

An F? That's right. The F stands for F__K OFF!.

Also, did anyone see that Wyoming is the ONLY state with a budget surplus this year? $139M!

Budget surplus? I don't like cold weather, but I might consider a move to Wyoming.....

Texas just announced today that we have a budget deficit of 9.9 billion dollars. They're talking about a state income tax. Looks like it's time to start thinking about moving.

Does anyone know how much longer Sara's expected to live? What's the state of her health?
The fight for freedom is not fought overseas in distant lands with guns, missles and bombs. It is fought here with words, pen and paper and I fear, we are loosing it.

Looks like Mi'sippi got an F also. And we got 2 demerits: one for prohibiting local government lawsuits against the gun industry, and another for repealing the requirement that gun dealers keep records on ammo sales. So there!

And I agree with Berto...if you teach kids about guns from the start, they respect them and don't see them as toys. Both my kids (a boy and a girl) learned to shoot a BB gun at age six, and moved up from there.
