 I have over the years collect many different rounds of ammo.
None are of great value just the odd stuff that we pick up here and there. and some in boxes that have never been opened.
OK I was thinking that to trim out the new gun room with a 3" board as a crown molding and gluing the odd ammo to the boards. Adding more as I come across them.
I know that some of these could be sold to collectors and I could make a few bucks but I think it would make a neat addition to the room.

Now what do you think about this idea?
    ? #2
Do you think I should make them all inert before putting them up?
    ? #3
Do you think I have lost my mind?

I don't have a gun room, but I have had a similar idea. I like to collect random rounds, mostly because of my interest in military history and firearms. I took this picture of my collection a few months ago. I think I've decided that I should take the picture again with a golf ball, soda can or ruler or something for size comparison, but I also figure that most people who visit this forum are familiar enough with these cartridges to not need any other size comparison. Also, it's nothing near a comprehensive collection, but mostly a comparison of some more common ammo types. I continue collecting both common and less common types, and my collection has grown since this picture was taken. I've arranged them by cartridge length, not caliber.

The cartridges from left to right are:
    .22 LR
    9mm Luger
    .357 Sig
    .40 S&W
    .45 ACP
    .38 Special
    .357 Magnum
    .44 Magnum
    7.62 x 39 Soviet
    5.56 x 45 NATO
    7.63 x 51 NATO
    30-06 Springfield
    .50 BMG
20mm PGU-28 (Used in the M61 Vulcan Cannon)
30mm PGU-13 (Used in the GAU-8 Avenger Cannon on the A-10 Thunderbolt II)

Just for comparison, the 30mm round is nearly 12 inches tall.

Just don't put no 303 Savage up there, I need all I can get........:D
  4. Bullet boards are neat, Ron. I'd say "go for it!" Personally, I wouldn't render them inert, but leave them as they are. No, I don't think you're nuts. Well, let me rephrase that, I don't think you're nuts about this idea. :D;)

That will take one heck of a Piece of crown trim to display! :D Neat Lurpy. :)
I have a collection of old rounds but no room to display them.

I think you have a good idea, Ron.

If I had the room, I think I would run a board around the crown & another 10-12 inches below it. Mount painted pegboard to the trim. Attach the displays to the pegboard, that could rearranged or changed easily.

Terri liked the pics of your gun room so much, she said "You need a gun room!" I love ya Buddy! :D

Depends on Uncle Sam's whim every 3 yrs.
I've been in a gun store that had a display with a zillion cartridges hotglued onto an oak was very eye catching and interesting to side-by-side compare favorite cartridges.
