Hey all,
I did a search and I came up with nothing and google is being little kinder so I really hope I can get some info here. I will be very new to reloading, in the next month or so. I recently ran into a rifle, an 1873 date stamped 1870/87 Italian Vetterli-Vitali rifle chambered in its original chambering of 10.4x47mm. I have it on layaway as we speak and I will be bringing it home around the first of May. I have come to terms with the fact that I HAVE to reload for it in order to shoot it, and that I am going to have to modify 348 WCF brass in order to do it. I have never reloaded...ever. But I was planning on it since I recently picked up a type 99 in 7.7 Jap and wanted to save some money shooting it and I continue to find guns in odd calibers. I also plan on getting into casting, so its not that I am wanting to get into reloading just for the 10.4mm. This new purchase only speeds up my need to do it. In any case, I have learned this much in my search for reloading this obscure ammunition;
1. I need to swage the case heads of the 348 WCF
2. I need to expand the necks
3. I need to buy a good reloading manual (I want to do black powder loading for this gun if I can. There is a range nearby that does black powder-only days and thought it would be fun to go.)

So, as far as the first first to, if anyone has any info, pictorials or write ups on how to do those things, that would be awesome. And if anyone has a any suggestions on a book for reloading these kinds of loads the way I'd like that would be awesome as well. Thanks!

Another thing that might get you started is to pick up a copy of "The Handloader's Manual Of Cartridge Conversions" by John J. Donnelly. He is usually very in-depth of the how-to and what to make it from - but I just look at your cartridge and it doesn't list the 'parent' case for this conversion.

It is a "Rimmed Bottle Neck", case length 1.87"; Head Diameter of .540; Rim Diameter of .634. Over all loaded length is given at 2.46" that uses a .430 bullet. Nmkenzie pointed you in the right direction. Good luck!
The book has been ordered. Thanks!
