It's so when a right handed person see's it coming it throws them off balance.

This might sound like a dumb answer but I think the twist is to the right so the inertia forces the barrel threads into the frame of the firearm. If it was to the left I believe it would cause the barrel to loosen. But I may be wrong.

 

Interestingly, Colt always used left hand twist, and their salesmen stated that it was to keep the barrels from unscrewing. In spite of the various theories that have been put forth, it is just a matter of tool design and specification and, in the case of Colt, tradition.

Dang, I was wrong. Oh well.

 

Colts, and Enfields use a left hand pitch. Everything else is right that im aware of.

 

My Taurus PT1911 is left hand rifled. I always wondered if all 1911s were like this?

 

Pretty much all 1911s are, as they are colt clones.

 

I was wrong once, too ---- the time I thought I had made a mistake but hadn't.

 

Not necessarily wrong. Colt salesmen (like most salesmen) tend to "explain" features in ways that make the company look good. No salesman is going to respond to an inquiry with "because that's the way it is", or "we paint the product black because we get a heckuva deal on black paint."
