I wasn't looking for one but at the very affordable price i seen i couldn't pass it up. I did some safe cleaning and horse trading and it cost me under $400 OTD. The trade in's cost me nothing too so i'm way ahead now. I always wanted one of the chinese m14's because of there forged steel receivers they make one of the best platforms for doing a M14 upgrade and builds too. But some of the orginal owners say they never had a problem with there's yet since they were brand new. I have the 7,62 nato headspace gauge here and i checked the headspace right away and the chamber is good and safe to shoot. The bore is also chrome lined from norinco too. Now i need to fire her up and put some heat in the barrel to see how good she shoots. I didn't want to drop the big dollars on a brand new M1a or M14 notjust yet. But i have been interested in a new fulton armory m14 for a few years now. If i like the norc m14 i may want to get one more. But at the low cost if i don't shoot it much its no loss and not a big investment. I know that one hot ticket to do with these is to send them to the fulton armory and they reharden the forged receiver up to 52-54 rockwell and fit all the orginal G.I. M14 inners/match barrel. Then we have the ultimate m14 to play with so they say. Thats another option is to upgrade it. That could be my holy grail of guns.

Does anyone have one of these norc's? Bill

Bigbill, A friend bought one back when the gun rags were calling them junk....cheap Chinese junk. He and I were at the range one morning and he brought out the Norinco. After a slow barrel break in, he put it away. The next day we glass bedded the action, and did a trigger job. Then he fire lapped the barrel.

At the next club long range match, he was tied for 1st place.

The tie breaker was an egg......at 435 yds. Both shooters missed the egg on their first shot. John nailed it on the second. Open sights.

He will not part with that rifle that he bought well over 10 years ago. He still wins matches with it.

Some people say the Chinese don't know weapons, but they sure know specs.

You just became the proud owner of a fine piece of Chinese "junk".
Enjoy it. :) And don't forget the range report.

If you ever decide to sell it, let me know.

Much agreed Sam. Them Chinitos sure know how to follow directions. Their make of the 1911 would have had JMB proud.

Yup thats her in the top pic. It has the brown plastic handguard and the plastic stock too. Thats the only thing i may change to wood but it could be a sleeper in its orginal stock/handguard if she shoots great i could fool everyone the way she looks right now. Any plastic stock isn't too purdy but i like them anyway.

Well I purchased a norinco 1911 after reading how good they were with the forged frame and slides plus the chrome lined bores. Plus again there very popular with gunsmiths for doing builds there one of the best platforms to start with. I installed a new barrel and a national match barrel bushing and a full length guide rod myself i fitted it all. Even with the loose slide from the previous owner shooting the snots out of it she shoots 1 clover leaf per mag at 25yds. With a few other tweeking and tuning she is very close to a race gun in performance too. But its not the shooter/beater i was first looking for, its way better than that. My search for a cheap afordable shooter/beater still continues. This norinco 1911 is one of the best 1911's that i have.

Now my chinese norinco paratrooper sks is another story. I picked it up used at a dealer it was the salesmans personal gun. We took it to the range at 100yds and she shoots 1 1/2'' groups using the chinese norinco ammo that i have. This is with me or my son shooting it too we get the exact same results from it.

Now its the norinco's M14 turn and if its as good as the two posts above here i'm golden. I seen this at a local dealer here on the net. I was choppin on the bit to get it first thing in the morning all night thinking about it. I can't lose at any cost for what i paid for it. I'll clean her, inspect her and lube her up with moly and off we go to the range next. She passed the 7,62 nato headspace already so she is ready to go i can't wait now. Bill

I bought one several years ago at a local gun show for about $250. I sold it a few years later for about $400 thinking I wanted something different. About a year ago, I decided I wanted another "M-14" so I bought an M1A for almost $1400. I feel that I was a fool for not keeping the Chinese junk. It shot just as good, if not better than my newer M1A.

I agree with Sam on getting rid of the plastic stock. Freds M-14 Stocks has original military stocks for almost nothing!!

Being new to the m1a/m14 and never working on one. After watching the you tube video about disassembling the m1a/m14's i got the hang of it and went right thru it. I found cosmoline still inside the trigger assembly. With very little finish worn off from it being shot plus no wear at all this one was shot very little. They probably played more running the bolt by hand than shooting it. The bore first appeared that it was corrosive and maybe pitted when i put a bore lite to it at the shop. Knowing its a chrome lined bore I already knew one run of a bore brush would make it nice and shiney already. Of course i was right the bore looks back at me now its so shiney. The industrial chrome lining looks great with lots of rifling left. The rifling looks the same from the chamber to the muzzle. With no throat wear and no wear at the muzzle end from the cleaning rods. The chamber is very clean and unmarked too. Now i'm thinking it could have maybe 20rds thru it more or less but not much, not more than 100rds i believe they just test fired it. With the trigger assembly there is no wear at all on it too.

In the past I have seen many guns like this. Wether there safe queens or there buddy had one so they got one then soon after they got a wife who hates guns and they make them part with them.

My biggest problem with many of these is they never gave them a full G.I. cleaning and lubing before storing them. The first thing i do is to check the headspace then clean and lube it. With moly on the metal to metal moving parts it took out the dry roughness and it operates very smooth now by hand. I put a tad of moly on the gas pistol, the recoil spring and the recoil spring guide rod too. I packed the roller inside with moly and did lube all the metal to metal moving parts inside the receiver with moly also. Its also good to check out the full floating firing pin too. Make sure its free to float so slam fires can't happen. She is now ready to rock n roll soon. Bill

BTW; I looked at Freds stocks and it sounds like a nice winter project to change it all to wood even the handguard.

During the cleaning and inspection in very small numbers that i could just about see with my eye glasses on it says "308cal" it doesn't say "7,62nato". Right away i took out my 308win field headspace gauge and chambered it. The bolt won't close on the shorter 308win headspace gauge over the longer 7,62nato headspace gauge. I'm guessing this norinco m14 is in 308win??? So were these offered in 308win as well as in 7,62nato? Bill

SORRY I also owe pics here too soon. My new puter doesn't like to run my older kodak pic program. I can load the little memory disc in my puter to bypass the downloading but when the program comes up i can't find the new pics i added to the disc. I'm computer ignorant sorry.

Not ignoring your post but I'm waiting for a call back from my friend to get you an answer.
On the receiver it says; "norinco M14 sporter" if i remember correctly. I know there were two different chinese m14's one was manufactured by Norinco and the other was manufactured by Poly Tech which is a military manufacurer. I read there were two different manufacturers. But again what i read could be wrong too.

Update;

I ordered the national match op rod spring guide the round one so the recoil spring can't coil it holds the spring straight. I notice on my 1911's when i installed the full length guide rod the spring is held straighter and it actually has more spring pressure because there's a lot of spring pressure lost when it coils. I got some extra mags and my new recoil spring (Xtra power) should be here tomorrow. (maybe from brownells) If so i may shoot it this weekend. I need to sight it in now and put some heat in the barrel. I received today all the stuff from northridge i ordered like the USGI M14 sling, The usgi cleaning rod, M14 wrench, the M14 oiler and the stripper clips w/guide. That about does it for my m14 she'll be all dressed up to go shootin soon. Bill

Update;

I found the op rod guide a tad loose so now is the time to fix it. I'll do that myself at home. Its an easy repair.

I'm ordering the 175gr FMJBT G.I. sniper bullets so can load the match grade ammo for it too. I'm also getting the #34 CCI nato primers and the lake city brass. Ecah case will be sized exactly the same and loaded exactly the ame too. Then we can test fire the norc.

Update, finally done she is ready to fire now. Its a 7,62 NATO chamber i finally figured it out with checking the headspace. Since she closes on the 308 go and no-go headspace gauges the headspace is around 1.635" she won't close on the 308 field gauge which is 1.638" and there's a big gap open on the bolt roller so its much tighter. With the 7,62 nato field being at 1.6455" it appears i have a shooter for sure now. I did the op rod guide block repair and its rock solid now. I can wait to put some heat6 it the barrel when it cools off outside.

I ordered a metric gas plug to make an adjustable gas valve for it and i have the metric tactical mag release comming too. Then its tweeked out as far i can go with it. I also have the armorers DVD comming too with knowledge and tricks about accuracy too. So i'm not all finished but its ready to sight in. I also ordered some LC 308 brass and 175gr FMJBT smiper bullets to load up too. I hope it all gets here in time soon. This one has been a journey but its going good so far. Bill

Food for thought;

308 win headspace................7.62 nato headspace (available gauges)

1.630" go...............................1.631".....................................................................................................................
1.634" no-go..........................1.632".....................................................................................................................
1.638" Field...........................1.633".....................................................................................................................
............................................1.635"....................................................................................................................
.............................................1.636"...................................................................................................................
.............................................1.637"...................................................................................................................
.............................................1.6455" field...........................................................................................................

I`ve owned one of the Poly Tech M14s since 94. It`s no Springfield M1A, but it`s not a tin AK-47 either.
Considering the price tag, it`s a pretty good rifle.
My M1 Garand will outshoot it, but it does pretty good.
There are plenty of things imported from China that are junk, but this isn`t one of them.
