I have a Colt 32 that my father-in-law carried in WWII. Although I have attached photos I am not able to get really good closeups of the writing with my camera.

On the left side of the slide it says:
PATENTED COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO.
APR201897 DEC221903 HARTFORD, CT. USA

Below that is, I assume, the serial number 140412. It is printed in italics.
On the same side, on the trigger guard, top, front is an upside down triangle. I can't read or see what is inside the triangle. (Maybe a YP inside the triangle.) Diagonally, bottom, rear of the guard is the number 1.

At the read of the slide there is a colt with two arrows and a symbol, perhaps an elongated C at its feet. This colt matches the colt on the grips.

On the right side of the gun, on the slide it says:
AUTOMATIC COLT
CALIBRE 32 RIMLESS SMOKELESS

I am no expert when it comes to the amount of bluing left, but it looks pretty good. Maybe 75-80%? But that is only a guess on my part, I don't know it is figured.

It does have a clip but there are no markings on it.

I would like to have an idea of its worth.

Anything else I should add?

Thanks.

Type 2 Mdl of 1903. The Blue Book list this gun at below $400 I see them selling much higher. I have seen some worn Type 1s sell for over $500. I think this is due to the fact that they look like the pistols carried by high ranking officers during WW II. The WWII issue Colts were marked US Property often parkerized and in.380 Caliber as well as .32 ACP. So far as I know they were never issued to soldiers below Staff level and were Stamped US property.:)good luck

I did not mean to indicate the gun was issued to my FIL during WWII. He purchased the gun himself, but he has always said he carried it during his time in the war.
Because of sentimental value it isn't for sale, but I was curious if it had any value. And it's interesting to note it is almost 100 years old. I'll have to make a post about the other guns he owned. They may be as old or older.

Thanks so much for the replies.
