Hi,

I am writing an essay on an art-related topic and I need help identifying, as much as is possible, the weapon shown in two art photographs. I know the art stuff but not the gun-stuff. Hoping to make the essay as informed an accurate as I can.

Can anyone help me out?

I should say that I'm just interested in the gun ID and am hoping to avoid any political discussion, though I realize the photos are provocative (as they were meant to be).

The artist is from Iran but I'm not sure where the images were made, though it appears to me to be the same gun. (Note also that I have almost no experience with rifles outside of a .22 I shot in Boy Scouts!).

Here are the links to the two photos:

So, any idea what this gun is?

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Well the gun is a Hunting rifle, Not Military by design of the front sight.
The caliber looks like 30 in relationship to the bore , Maybe 308, 30-06 or 300 win mag.
The front sight is really all we have to determine what brand the firearm is and in my mind it is a Remington.

Call it a Remington Model 7400 or 7600 30-06

I lost this one in a boating accident (deep in the safe) otherwise id have a closer picture of the front sight.

I pulled up images for rifles matching the stock in the picture and I actually think the rifle is a Remington but what model is yet to be determined. Due to the size of the stock I would say it was a Remington model 58 chambered in .410 because the barrel opening is so small. If not a shotgun then it is likely that the gun was made at the same time as the model 58 and also by Remington.

My $0.02. Stamped into the barrel, on the left side of the majority of rifles I have owned or handled is the name of the manufacturer and the caliber. This is a modern weapon. There should be no guess work as to make, model and caliber. How simple is this?
Being that no-one has the firearm in their possession and the OP wants them identified from a picture that doesn't show those few important things, a little on the difficult side.
