I recently purchased a new Springfield Armory (Defend Your Legacy) 1911 Mill-Spec, on a whim from my local Gun Store for $479.00 I have not picked the gun up and can still refuse it. I don’t need a new gun but I though just keep it unfired. My question is, Deal or No Deal, Is It a keeper? It's all steel with a premium barrel.

I have a few handguns I purchased long ago, that haven't been fired. They are now worth quite a bit more than what I paid for them.

If you are happy with the price you paid, then keep it. Who knows, you may end up shooting it eventually.

For that price on a SA, I'd call it a good deal. If it's Mil- Spec, shouldn't be any different than any other Mil-Spec. I have Rock Island that perform just as smooth and accurate as any high dollar 1911.

Ditto that AND I got mine sighted in today (finally)!

I didn't take my bench with me today so I just shot rested off the hood of my Jeep but it was shooting centered and pretty tight but about 6" low so I did something I NORMALLY wouldn't do and that was to file the front sight down.

I ONLY did this as I really like the Novac style rear sight but it is not adjustable for elevation so it was file a bit, shoot a few rounds, file a bit more until I got POI where I want.

When I could hit cans consistently where I was aiming at 25 - 30 yards I called it good!

I've owned many SA 1911's thru the years and all the mil-spec pistols were turned into custom pistols and sold.
But, today the best bang for the 1911 buck is Rock Island Armory. These pistols are built on CNC machines
and the tolerances are tight. They hold a good group if you do your part and with good mags will run close to many custom
built 1911 for less money. They come from the factory with a lot of the custom parts that many would probably add later.

I never buy a gun NOT intending to shoot it, so I want one that has the features that I like, unless it is a historical arm. I DON'T like the government models sights, too small and too low. Now I would love to have one that was surplus like that, I would not buy a modern manufactured one with the government sights. But that is just me, because i would want a shooter.
