Hello, Firearms Forum! I've seen this shotgun in a couple movies and I have fallen in love with it. Getting a real one is a little out of my price range, but I could definitely carve a replica. So what I'm asking is: could someone kindly provide me with the dimensions of the gun? I really just need some general info, like the total length, barrel length, etc. Once I get this project rolling I'll post progress pics. Thanks in advance!

Accurate dimensions may be difficult to locate. The barrels were 35½"-36" in length, ballpark, this would be the largest difference compared to doubles in the 16-12ga category. Diameter and width of the barrels upscaled also. Other than the barrels and a bit of upscaling in the action the rest of the gun should be fairly normal, since they are designed for human use.

There are probably some online calipers/calculators that can use the length of barrels as a given and extrapolate the dimensions you want. Super accurate dimensions are probably not needed for this project.

If those are 8 bore shells, that isn't an 8 bore gun. They're bigger than the OD of the breech.

I can tell you this about the company. It was founded in 1833 by William Moore. In 1844 William Grey joined the company and it was known as Wm. Moore & Grey. In 1908 it was bought by Cogswell & Harrison. Both Moore and Grey had previously worked for Joseph Manton....along with about 1/4 of the renowned makers in England. They were located at several addresses over their life.

There was also at least one other maker using that name and, possibly 2. As in Germany, at that time, gun making was often a family affair, to include intermarriages between the families.

At that time a lot of "London" guns were made in Birmingham. Many were also sent to London for proof so it would bear London proof marks rather than Birmingham. London made guns were supposed to be better...even if made in Birmingham.

And if it's shooting jacketed slugs it isn't a shotgun, it's a double rifle. And it's going to kick like the elephant and rhinos it was meant to kill.

She's a rather petite looking thing. I've seen 8 & 10 bore guns and if that's what she was holding the breech area and where she's holding the barrels would be a lot bigger. Then, using your minds eye, compare the length of those shells to how wide the action should be and the length of what the chambers should be.

Hollyweird is blowing smoke up skirts, as usual.

I found several 8 gauge side by side shotguns on UK sites--Guntrader and Gunstar.

Usual barrel length is 34" and stock length is @14".

Here is the breech of an actual 8 bore rifle, note how much wider the barrels are than the dainty little thing the actress is holding.

Ohhh I’m supposed to be looking at the shotgun! I’ll go back to the first post now.

her high top sneakers aren’t laced all the way up either, just make it easier for the the blast and recoil to blow her out of them.

Those are necked down rifle cartridges.
Hawg, were you able to blow up the picture? I don't know how. I see what might be a shoulder but I sure can't tell.

Yeah. Look how her hand encompasses the fore end and the barrels. That ain't no 8 bore anything and I believe you or mauser are correct.

I could blow it up just fine and the shells aren't necked down. Straight walled 8 bore cartridges. IIRC, my charts and tooling are all up at the barrel shop and I'm not, the bore would be .835 and with rifling cut into it grooves would be around .845. I didn't make 8 bore rifled barrels often enough to have the internal dimensions committed to memory.

So i checked it out. The name of the movie is "Ready or Not" staring Samara weaving. And it does say one of the firearms she uses in the movie is a 8 gauge William Moore and co shotgun. It shows her firing a shotgun in a still shot, but i'm thinking they switched out the 8 gauge for a smaller gauge.

I've made a couple of 8 bore rifles, single shot rifles mind you, and the round ball weighs 875 grains. That's two ounces, I think the bullet mold for them cast a 1300 grain conical. Joe, the boss offered to let me test fire one if I wanted to but I said nope, I ain't that brave. They did shoot one of those conicals into a pile of wet phone books and it penetrated 16 inches.

Boy howdy if that was a real 8 bore rifle it's going to tear off her underarm and break that window behind her as it goes flying backwards. When you have 600+ grains of black powder pushing a quarter pound+ of lead, things are going to happen if you don't know what you are doing. And given she doesn't have it tight to her shoulder she doesn't. That smoke and fire is AI generated or she touched off two blanks.

But I bet it wasn't an 8 bore double rifle. Multiply the shotgun's recoil by at least 2. My son used to say he'd shoot anything, including the 2 and four bore rifles we used to build. He said he'd shoot anything, once. I let him shoot a 14 bore rifle I'd built and he blacked his own eye and gave himself a bloody nose from recoil when his right hand hit his face. A couple of months later we had an 8 bore in the shop and the boss asked me if I wanted to borrow it so he could shoot it. (This is the one that shot the 1200 grain conical). I can't post what the kid said in response because I'd get banned.

I'm glad it wasn't! Birdshot was bad enough!
I shot both barrels on that ONCE.
I did that on a Richland 711 10ga SxS, and Vince loaded hot for Geese, like the ones flying in the next county.
That's where my 25yr old brain, was trying to kill me again. "Well, that 10ga only left a bruise for a week, how bad could the 8ga be?" "Soon as your shoulder gets removed from your back pocket, you'll be fine!"
